ABOUT OUR TEAM
Thank you for showing interest in our team! We are an entirely student run organization. The Equestrian Team is open to all students of any discipline and level! However, to receive the most from the team we recommend that all riders have at least a basic understanding of tacking up, as well as how to walk and trot/jog. Without that, you cannot compete your first year and thus won't get the full experience of the team, while required to put in the effort and volunteer hours the team requires. The Horsemanship Club is a great way to gain all of these basic skills you need to compete, before joining our team and they work directly out of the AHC so they are on-campus and accessible.
We would be thrilled to have you be a part of our team and possibly compete in our show circuit during our show season. In order to join, all you have to do is add the AVS Equestrian Team course (AVS 2980 section 2) when registering for your classes. This class is highly sought after and fills up quickly, so make sure to add it as soon as you can. This class meets every or every other Tuesday from 11:30-12:30 pm, counts for 1 unit, and is a graded course. This is also a competition team, which means that competing is our main goal and objective. Like most sports, this team is a huge time commitment. Riding on this team is determined by a lot of factors and we try to make it as fair as possible, but the more time you devote to the team the more likely you are to ride. Our Class requires lots of time outside of class. We have mandatory volunteer hours, as well as, full day weekend competitions, on top of lessons outside of our class time.
There are financial requirements due to our class being off campus and competitive. General members are required to pay a flat rate of $100 while showing members have a $300 membership fee, which helps cover the cost of lessons as well as show fee's. General members are members who are not ready to compete or those who wish to not compete and just help at shows and gain experience that way. General members get lessons, but will not be as prioritized as the showing members, until after our show season is over. Our class will only be riding off campus in San Dimas with no plans to return to the CPP Arabian Horse Center. We will meet at school for our weekly or bi-weekly meetings but will NOT be riding on campus per CPP Risk Management.
We welcome beginners to advanced riders to compete in equitation hunter (flat and fences) and Western disciplines. IHSA is different from other shows due to the fact that riders draw a random horse from a pool before their class and ride without warmup. We are so excited to see new members join and look forward to creating fun and lasting memories as we compete and build our competition team.

Our team originally started on campus in 1983 and competed in many circuits. Since then our team kept going through Covid and beyond. Unfortunately, we have been met with a ton of obstacles. Whether that be financially or physically, our team has met these obstacles with creativity and endurance. We made it through covid and even flourished through being removed from campus. Now we are Sycamore Canyon Equestrian center and are working through the issues that we face. This team has given so many members such amazing experiences that they would not have otherwise gotten. We are continuing to take every obstacle with positivity and endurance and hope to make every year better than the last.
